Nicholls arrives, Pacquette stays and
Williams goes (03.05.08)
The final whistle at
Basingstoke last Saturday was the cue for Johnson Hippolyte to fully focus
on assembling his squad for next season. With the season far from over for
many clubs and the constitution of next season’s leagues still a few weeks
away from being declared, negotiations with both members of the existing
squad and targets at other clubs continue, however there is news regarding
three players.
The first new face to arrive at York Road is Ashley Nicholls, who
makes the long trip from York Street, home of Boston United. 26 year old
Nicholls, who can play either in central midfield or out wide, started his
career at Ipswich and went to play more than 70 games for Darlington. He
also has experience with Rushden & Diamonds, Canvey Island, Grays Athletic
and Cambridge United.
Hippolyte’s last signing prior to Nicholls, Richard Pacquette, has also
committed himself to the Magpies for next season. Pacquette arrived on
deadline day from Havant & Waterlooville, scoring Maidenhead’s winner in
their vital relegation clash at Weston Super Mare. His chief highlight of
last season was of course his goal for the Hawks in front of the Kop at
Anfield in their FA Cup Fourth Round tie in February.
Finally the club are sad to say goodbye to striker Manny Williams.
Williams, who with 30 goals last season became something of a hot
property, training with Yeovil earlier this year. His next destination is
Blue Square Premier club Woking. Williams elected to take his career to
the next level with the Cards, turning down an extraordinarily lucrative
package from one of United’s Blue Square South rivals to do so. All at
Maidenhead United extend their thanks to Manny for his superb performance
last season and wish him all the best as he attempts to establish himself
in the national game.
Drax wins Manager of the Month Award
(01.05.08)
Johnson Hippolyte has won the Blue Square
South Manager of the Month award. Maidenhead began the month with the
threat of relegation hanging over them after defeat at fellow strugglers
Dorchester Town. Hippolyte’s side then went on to win three successive
matches scoring 10 goals and only conceding once, to ease their fears of
the drop. Two further clean sheets in their final two games gave them the
points for a respectable 17th placed finish and another season in the Blue
Square South.

Maidenhead United
Football Club's Legends XI match at York Road on Sunday raised £1,109.50
for the Geoff Thomas Foundation (20.04.08)
The Geoff Thomas Legends, managed by former
Arsenal and Northern Ireland manager Terry Neill, lost 3-1 to a Maidenhead
United Legends XI in front of nearly 400 spectators.
"The feedback we've had is that everyone had a very enjoyable day," said
event organiser Mark Roach, Maidenhead United's full time commercial and
community manager. "I think the weather forecast might have kept a few
people away but we even had some sunshine in the second half. It was an
entertaining match and a great atmosphere. One of the pleasing factors was
the number of legends who played including the likes of Kerry Dixon, Micky
Hazard, Martin Allen, Simon Garner, John Polston, Mick Gooding, Michael
Gilkes and Barry Hunter. The starting 11 included Blackburn's all time
leading goalscorer and the second top scorer in Chelsea's history. I think
people were genuinely surprised that so many well known ex players were
involved. It was fantastic that Geoff Thomas was there in person and I am
really pleased that we managed to raise in excess of £1,000 for the Geoff
Thomas Foundation from our first attempt. We are already looking ahead to
next year's Legends match and hopefully we'll attract more big names next
time - and an even bigger crowd. It was a great family day out. Gary
Westwood, Matt Collis and Twyford Comets Under 9s Diamonds did us proud
with the half-time penalty shoot out - and one of the highlights of the
day was when one of the Twyford Comets scorers celebrated a goal with a
double back flip! And then, not to be outdone, Simon Garner tried an
acrobatic scissor kick in the second half. It was great entertainment. One
of the biggest cheers of the day was reserved for a cameo appearance by
our fixture secretary Roy Bannister who won a competition to play in the
match. That reaction just summed up what an enjoyable day it was - and we
even had royalty in attendance."
Chelsea legend Kerry Dixon added: "It was a pleasure to be involved, but a
few of us had some major aches and pains on Monday! It was a great day and
all for a very worthwhile cause, and we are all looking forward to the
next Legends match at Maidenhead."
A goal from current Maidenhead United manager Johnson Hipployte gave the
Magpies XI a first minute lead, but Charlie Allen, son of Martin Allen,
equalised before the break.
It was left to former Magpies strikers Micky Creighton and Paul McKinnon
to secure victory for the Maidenhead XI in the second half.
Geoff Thomas gave his man of the match champagne to former Maidenhead
United midfielder Barry Rake.
