Although disappointing tonight's result was a good lesson for the
boys to take on board.
So far, our preseason has been all highs and I believe a touch of
complacency has set in. They took to the field tonight far too
laid back and disinterested. At this time of year it is hard for
us with so many players away on holiday but that said those
players available should take their chance and try to impress over
those on holiday.
We never really got out of the starting block and paid the price
by being a goal behind after 4 minutes when poorly defending a
corner. Whilst we were technically better than the opposition they
wanted the win more than we did. The second came on 15 minutes
when we again failed to pick up markers and the ball was slotted
home from close range.
Whilst we had a lot of the ball our final pass was woeful and we
rarely strung together any neat movement. Far too many people took
the opportunity to hide rather than come to the fore when under
pressure.
Kidlington's 3rd goal was a very neat move that was finished very
nicely with a low drive. Their 4th came just before half time when
a 35 yard drive dipped into the net which to be fair our keeper
should have saved.
After a rather stern half time team talk with a few home truths
rammed home the boys responded well with a totally different
approach to the second half. We totally outplayed Kidlington
without them having a single chance in the 2nd half. While we
never had many shots we had all the play with Kidlington defending
well. We scored halfway through the half when Jason Strowger met a
Ryan Hazell corner.
We step up a level for our last 2 friendlies when we take on 2
mens teams by entertaining Holyport Res at Bisham on Wednesday,
6-15 KO. And then travel to Iver Heath on Saturday 26th to take on
the Division 1 Giles league winners from last year.
