The Youth team finished the season on a high
with three straight wins.
Last night was always going to be tough against a strong physical
Burnham.
We started well and took an early lead in the 5th minute when a
Hazel free kick was meet by Xavier Etienne who's back header
looped over the keeper into the net.
The remainder of the half was tight. Burnham had the best chance
to score but Kieron Hudson, back in goal after a 3 week lay off,
was in superb form and pulled a tremendous one handed save pushing
the ball over the bar.
The second half was a lot more exciting with Burnham catching us
on the off foot at the back and equalising within the opening
minute of the re-start.
The lads to their credit responded well and at the next attack hit
the flank with Ryan Hazel putting his cross on the head of Matty
Stevenson who looked to have scored only to be fouled in the
process and put the effort over the bar.
The Referee immediately pointed to the spot and Ian Henry stepped
up and put us back in the lead.
Burnham not to be out done pressured our defence and equalised
again within 5 minutes when a good through ball set them free.
This resolved our lads again and Chris Ellis scored the winner
with 20 minutes remaining when he powered into the box and shot
home.
After this we held firm but for some shocking refereeing. The
first came with 15 minutes to go when Steve Deveral was
adjudicated to have swung a fist when the player was trying to
realease his his arm from a hold.
We were then reduced to 9 men when substitute Andre Turner was
given a second yellow for suposed holding up a free kick when in
fact returning the ball.
Backs to the wall the boys held out well moving us to 3rd spot in
the league.
