A tough game tonight on a poor pitch.
We welcomed Lewis Driver back into the Youth ranks after the Reserves away game tonight against Chesham fell foul to the weather.
The conditions controlled the game with quick passing virtually out of the question under the thoroughly sodden ground.
We started well and applied good pressure but did not threaten the Burnham goal. Burnham were relying on set pieces for their chances and this remained the same for the whole 90 minutes.
Our first clear cut chance came with a good through ball from Lewis Driver to Ryan Hazell who was thwarted by the keeper handling outside his area. The Referee bottled the decision and failed to even book the keeper let alone send him off!!! The resulting kick went just wide.
We opened the scoring in the 28th minute when the Burnham keeper failed to hold on to a good shot which left Ryan Hazell to thud the ball home from close range.
We continued to pressure and in the 36th minute a pinpoint pass from Andre Turner found Ian Henry free of his marker. He neatly side footed past the outstretched keeper.
We were now in cruise control and did not look in danger until Xavier Ettiene was adjudicated to have brought down a Burnham player in the box. Burnham made it 2-1 from the spot in the 43rd minute
Burnham battled well and never gave up and equalised against the run of play in the 54th minute with a well taken driven goal.
Both teams continued to scrap out the game in what was often not a pretty sight with long ball tactics from teams.
We left it late and grabbed the winner in the 87th minute when centre back Chris Ellis through caution to the wind pushed forward. Although the goal had a hint of offside Chris burst through, chipped the keeper and then slotted into the empty net only to disappear under a huge pile of black and white shirts.
Special mention must be given to Luke Dexter and Left back, 16 year old Steve Deveral who both had fantastic games.
