A game of two halves. With
two different Maidenhead teams in both.
In the first half we were bright and energetic in the second
lethargic and struggling with injuries.
Playing 4-4-2 we started with good tempo with Dan Hunt and Lewis
Driver penetrating the wings. We opened the scoring in the 5th
minute when a great through ball from Hazell found Sami Hached who
lifted the ball over the advancing keeper.
Poor rear post defending saw Henley equalise in the 15th minute.
Matty Stevenson put us back in front with a great thumping header
from a corner in the 27th minute.
We continued to play good football in this half but did have to
soak up pressure from the quick Henley forwards.
The second half was a different story as Henley equalised when we
conceded a soft goal that went through keeper Kieron Hudson's
legs.
KIeron soon made amends with some terrific saves as Henley put us
under a lot of pressure. We were also suffering with injuries to
key players and this started to kick in as Luke Dexter had to come
off with a knee problem, David Ruan was too tired as he had
already had a school match in the afternoon, Chris Ellis picked up
a knock during the game and Lewis Driver picked up a knock to his
hip.
This meant it was back to the wall as players could not track back
fast enough. Despite that we missed a hatful of chances that we
really should have made count. Henley hit us on the break and took
the lead with 10 minutes remaining. We changed to 3 at the back
and three up front and missed to quality efforts.
Henley wrapped up the game with 2 minutes left as we hunted an
equaliser.
The game was watched by a healthy crowd and well refereed by Barry
Lynch.
Although we are going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment
we have some very good players and have had terrible luck
regarding injuries
