The Youth eased in to the next round of the
League Cup with a comfortable win against Witney United last night.
We should have scored a wealth of goals in the first half but poor
finishing, post, crossbars kept us at bay. We played a high tempo
game going 3-4-3. Witney were not prepared for the pace of the game
and looked shell shocked in the early stages before settling. Wing
backs Nathan Lishman and Josh Waldron both had good halfs. On the
rare occasions Witney ventured into our final third the three centre
backs - Chris Cumming, Matty Stevenson and Jake Chance held firm and
were rarely bothered.
Somehow we went into half time 0-0.
In the second half we continued the high tempo and were again
thwarted with poor finishing and posts. We finally broke the
deadlock on the hour when a good ball found Ryan Hazell free who
slotted past the keeper.
Witney visibly dropped their heads after holding out so long. We now
ran rampant and Ryan soon added his second with a header from close
range.
Due to the high tempo we had to make changes to the line up but this
just strengthened us with fresh legs allowing Nathan Lishman to
smack home our third.
Sam Lock culminated a great display in midfield with a great goal
hammered into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
We finished off proceedings when Chris Cumming scored his debut goal
after 2 years when his shot took a wicked deflection into the net.
But as it is Chris's 18th over the weekend we could hardly deny him
the goal.
Next week we travel to Thatcham Town in the FA Youth Cup.
