MAIDENHEAD UNITED 4 (2) |
THAME
UNITED 1 (1) |
With a suspension and a couple of guys due to
miss the rest of the season through holidays we were forced to ring
the changes to settle the side for the run in and our Cup Semi
Final. We started with a 3 4 3 formation.
We were very slow out of the blocks and quite frankly poor at times.
Nevertheless we never looked in trouble. We took the lead in the 32
minute when Nathan Lishman rose above the crowd and nodded home a
fine header from a corner. Lee Barney made it 2-0 on the stroke of
half time when he rattled in a fierce shot into the roof of the net
from close range. At half time we bought on 16 year old Andy Wells
into the centre of midfield as I wanted his battling qualities to
shore up the middle.
But we started the half poorly losing possession easily and
generally rushing on the ball. We made another sub bringing on 16
year old George Bond and reverting to a 4 - 4-2 this shored up
matters and allowed us the opportunity to attack again.
A great little move with a neat pass from Lee Barney allowed James
Gisbourne to break free and shoot powerfully below the outstretched
keeper to make it three. An injury forced us to make the final sub
with Lee Miles replacing Xaviere Ettiene. A sloppy goal kick saw
Thame overman us at the back and grab a lobbed goal. But the goal of
the game was saved until the 89th minute when a great cross looked
over hit only for 15 year old Jake Chance to extend his neck and
powerfully nod home to round off a good win while not operating on
all cylinders. |
