One game too many after our epic 120 minute
battle on Wednesday.
The lads looked flat and tired in the warm up and this transferred
to the pitch.
Although we opened brightly Henley bounced back and hit us on the
counter attack in the 15th minute when we did not track back and
pick up our markers. The shot could also have been better covered by
our keeper but not sure if he was unsighted.
Henley forced a corner and we yet again failed to mark to the
required standard with their player having a free shot low into the
net.
We changed our formation to cover Henley's strength on the flanks
but frankly it was too late.
We changed personnel at half time to freshen things up but we gifted
Henley the 3rd goal in the opening minutes when our keeper fluffed
his goal kick straight to the Henley forward.
We battled well for the rest of the half but we were plainly playing
on tired legs.
A well deserved win for Henley which should see them as champions.
We now have to swallow our pride and strive for second and win the
League Cup. Nevertheless we are still a young side compared to most.
Steve Deveral, Nathan Lishman and Xavier Ettienne were absolutely
superb tonight. |
