Maidenhead United Hall of Fame

MUSA hosted the inaugural Hall of Fame evening in Stripes on 3rd August. We were honoured by the presence of past players and club servants spanning more than 60 years, and all those present agreed it was a great success. Eleven names were inducted into the Hall of Fame as voted for by MUSA members: Charles Vardy, Rowland Edwards, George Copas, Derek Gee, Bert Randall, Brian Pitts, Len Townsend, Mick Chatterton, Benny Laryea, Garry Attrell and Tim Cook. In addition an honorary place was awarded to Stan Payne for his service to the club since 1969. The captioned photographs, as presented to all those who were able to attend, have now gone on permanent display in Stripes and we urge you to go and check them out.

New MUSA merchandise

While manning the Maidenhead United stand at the summer Maidenhead Boys & Girls FC 6-a-side tournament, we made an impulse purchase of replicas of the “Partick Thistle style” away shirts, as originally bought by MUSA for the club some years ago. No doubt you will see some of us sporting one of these striking red and yellow shirts today. They are available now at £20 for MUSA members or £22 for non-members (adult size only, short sleeved).

We have also taken delivery of some smart new MUSA enamel badges which we are giving out free to members. If you don’t have one yet, come and get one from Matthew or me today. Don’t forget that MUSA membership also entitles you to 10% discount on Maidenhead United merchandise from the Club Shop.

MoM award

The Football Club has given MUSA the honour of nominating the Man of the Match at every game. We are rotating this among the members – if you have ever been slack-jawed in disbelief at who has won and would like to pick the MoM yourself, come over and let us know.

Player sponsorship and “49 Club” bonus ball prize draw

MUSA has take over these two fund-raising initiatives from Football Club, so this year it’s up to us to decide how the money is to be spent. For £40 you can sponsor a player or a member of the coaching staff and get your name in the programme every week.

There may still be a couple of numbers available in the “49 Club” this season. For £2.00 per week (or a single payment of £77.00) you will have a chance every Wednesday and Saturday to win £25.00 if your number is the bonus ball in the Lotto draw! Please see Steve Henson to register for your chance to win.

MUSA on the Board

Our thanks go out to Graham Alfred for the great job he is doing as MUSA’s representative on the MUFC Board of Directors. If there is anything you would like raised before the board, do come and talk to us, or e-mail us at musa2006@fsmail.net.

MUSA membership

Following the inaugural meeting in November, membership fees were set at £5.00 to join, plus £5.00 annual subscription, with under-16s at £1.00 plus £1.00. What’s more, if you join now we will extend your membership to the 2007-8 season at no extra cost! Membership forms are now available from Matthew Foster (Secretary), Chris Raine (Treasurer) or myself (Chariman), and can also be downloaded from the Football Club website. Membership cards have been ordered and we hope to have them for today. Please complete a form and hand it with your monies to any of the above named MUSA officers, so as to be eligible for Supporters Representative voting rights, 10% discount on club merchandise, etc., etc.

“49 Club” bonus ball prize draw

MUSA is taking over the running of the “49 Club” from August 2007. For £2.00 per week (or a single payment of £77.00) you will have a chance every Wednesday and Saturday to win £25.00 if your number is the bonus ball in the Lotto draw! Please see any MUSA officer to register for your chance to win.

And finally

I admit I am “technologically impaired”… we would like to set up a Supporters Association website – if you can help or know someone who can, please get in touch with us. Likewise if you have any questions about MUSA or Maidenhead United, please come and talk to us, post on the discussion board (or send a Personal Message to M.U.S.A.), or you can e-mail us at musa2006@fsmail.net.

COME ON YOU MAGPIES!

Mark Leonard
