Nicholls arrives, Pacquette stays and
Williams goes (03.05.08)
The final whistle at
Basingstoke last Saturday was the cue for Johnson Hippolyte to fully focus
on assembling his squad for next season. With the season far from over for
many clubs and the constitution of next season’s leagues still a few weeks
away from being declared, negotiations with both members of the existing
squad and targets at other clubs continue, however there is news regarding
three players.
The first new face to arrive at York Road is Ashley Nicholls, who
makes the long trip from York Street, home of Boston United. 26 year old
Nicholls, who can play either in central midfield or out wide, started his
career at Ipswich and went to play more than 70 games for Darlington. He
also has experience with Rushden & Diamonds, Canvey Island, Grays Athletic
and Cambridge United.
Hippolyte’s last signing prior to Nicholls, Richard Pacquette, has also
committed himself to the Magpies for next season. Pacquette arrived on
deadline day from Havant & Waterlooville, scoring Maidenhead’s winner in
their vital relegation clash at Weston Super Mare. His chief highlight of
last season was of course his goal for the Hawks in front of the Kop at
Anfield in their FA Cup Fourth Round tie in February.
Finally the club are sad to say goodbye to striker Manny Williams.
Williams, who with 30 goals last season became something of a hot
property, training with Yeovil earlier this year. His next destination is
Blue Square Premier club Woking. Williams elected to take his career to
the next level with the Cards, turning down an extraordinarily lucrative
package from one of United’s Blue Square South rivals to do so. All at
Maidenhead United extend their thanks to Manny for his superb performance
last season and wish him all the best as he attempts to establish himself
in the national game.
Drax wins Manager of the Month Award
(01.05.08)
Johnson Hippolyte has won the Blue Square
South Manager of the Month award. Maidenhead began the month with the
threat of relegation hanging over them after defeat at fellow strugglers
Dorchester Town. Hippolyte’s side then went on to win three successive
matches scoring 10 goals and only conceding once, to ease their fears of
the drop. Two further clean sheets in their final two games gave them the
points for a respectable 17th placed finish and another season in the Blue
Square South.
