Magpies still flocking in (17.08.06)

THE excitement is building at York Raod, as Maidenhead United launch their first Southern League campaign in over a century on Saturday, with a trip to perennial sleeping giants Gloucester City.
Manager Carl Taylor is clearly champing at the bit, while simultaneously adding the finishing touches to his talent-packed squad.
He said: “I’m very excited but it’s still hard work at the moment. I’m still trying to work through players, and people keep popping up.
“Abdul (Saeed Osman) turned up last night (Tuesday), and Ryan Johnson hasn’t made it into the pro game, so it’s feasible he could end up with us.
“I’m also talking to Richard Witt from Thatcham Town, who’s been the best player we’ve played against in pre-season. He’s a 6ft 3in midfielder and he was at training last night.”
There is still no news on Craig O’Connor, but he too could yet make a return to York Road.
Taylor added: “In terms of building something for the club for the next couple of years, it’s a pretty good start.
“The number of decent players who can’t get in shows how far we have come in a short time.
“We will be very competitive, but until we’ve played a few games we can’t say more than that.
“It’s a tough start against Gloucester, Kings Lynn and Chippenham, but they have to worry about us too. We carry a threat and they have to handle us.
“We just want to get on with it now.”
