Hughes is back in the fold (29.06.06)

PLAYERS continue to flock to York Road, as Maidenhead United boss Carl Taylor adds the finishing touches to his promotion-chasing squad.
He said: “The public will want to know that Stephen Hughes is back training with us, and there’s a lad from Wycombe who turned up who looks very promising.
“Other players should be coming back from holidays over the next week or so.
“I’m very excited about it.”
But Taylor is not stopping there.
He added: “I’m talking to another couple of players.
“One of those is Andy Cook, and there’s a right-back who’s due back from holiday this week.
“I’m also talking to a well-known midfielder on Thursday.”
Rangy midfielder Cook won the player of the year award last time he was at York Road, so should receive a warm welcome from United’s fans. And Hughes was United’s leading scorer last season, before defecting to Cambridge City, so should be another popular addition to the squad.
Taylor has led two training sessions so far, and admitted some of the players had lost a bit of fitness.
He said: “It was a bit of a light session on Saturday. Some of them are still struggling a bit.
“But next Saturday we have some Army fitness assessors coming down, so that’s going to be a bit more of a workout.”
Taylor added: “I’m really excited. It’s really great to be back.”
