Taylor reaction to Slough game (31.07.06)

"Considering so many first choice players didn’t play against Slough, for an hour we looked really strong. “People may say they (Slough) looked weak, but we were very comfortable and could have had a lot more goals.
“From my perspective we dealt with everything they threw at us for the first hour.
“Slough did well to get back in it, but it wasn’t about the result for me, otherwise I wouldn’t have made all those changes.
“Overall it was a good work out. And with a full strength side we’ll be pretty decent.
”Another positive to come out of the game was a strong performance from former Flackwell Heath star Mark Nisbet.
Taylor said: “He had a great game. He’s worked his way into my plans.”

Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat at Thatcham Town provided less to celebrate, but Taylor insisted his plans were still on track.
He said: “If we played Thatcham 10 times – if we played the way we did last night (Tuesday) – we’d beat them nine times.
“The only reason we lost is because we had such a small team out.
“They were very big and physical, and they used their height to score a great winner with a deep cross to the far post.
“I put out a second string side to start with, but we totally bossed it for the first 40 minutes, although we didn’t create many chances.
“They had a few breakaways and managed to score just before half-time from a long cross.
“I brought on stronger players in the second half and we equalised.
“We could have scored more. Then the game ebbed and flowed and they scored a great winner. But Thatcham will know they played against a strong side, even though quite a lot of my players were missing. Seven or eight starters were out.”
Meanwhile, Mark Graham has decided to leave York Road, while other players have become targets for rival clubs.
Taylor said: “Some are even sniffing around my contract players, trying to unsettle them.
“We just need to get on with the season. We need to get a decent start and then, if anything, more people will want to join us.
“I’m still looking for a central midfielder. I have one in mind, and I’m talking to another striker.
On Saturday, United welcome Marlow to York Road.
Taylor said: “I’m going to go stronger. With each week now I’m going to go stronger.
“We’re not going to keep carving teams up and then not scoring.
“We’ll be working on that.”
