Taylor
bites bullet after 5-0 thrashing (28.09.06)
MAIDENHEAD
United dramatically parted company with manager Carl Taylor
on Monday, following Saturdays 5-0 horror show at
home to Clevedon Town.
In an official statement from the club, chairman Una Loughrey
said: On a personal level, working with Carl has been
great and we will miss having him as part of the club.
He is a real professional and has certainly given
100 per cent to the club, so it is a pity for all concerned
that it has not worked out.
She later expanded on that, adding: We have not had
the results we wanted.
Carl was feeling stressed by it. We met on Sunday
night, and then met with the committee today. It was a mutual
agreement
Given our budget and aspirations we should be higher
up than 18th. We decided to do it now rather than leave
it.
It was a difficult decision. We appreciate what
he has done for us.
Carl is a pragmatic man, he understood and we wish
him well.
We were all quite upset afterwards.
The search for a new manager now begins in earnest, but
in the meantime reserves boss Richie Goddard is taking the
reins.
Loughrey said: Weve no-one in mind yet. Richie
will take over in the interim, but we will want to appoint
someone as soon as possible.
Eager to avoid a mass exodus, the club has also embarked
on a damage-limitation exercise.
Loughrey explained: The players were told after our
meeting. Carl has spoken to them and has urged them to stick
with the club. Obviously there may be some who will want
to leave now, that is understandable.
So we will be having a meeting with the players at
training on Thursday.
Taylor admitted he had been on an emotional rollercoaster
since Saturday, but claims to have now regained his normal
composure.
He said: My bad time was Saturday, Sunday and part
of Monday.
That was as bad as I could ever feel. But I was much
better on Monday after getting the release clause in my
contract activated.
I called for the meeting on Sunday. I didnt
need Peter and Una getting more stress because of me.
I looked at the two of them and thought they looked
worn out. I had to think, can I keep this going.
It wasnt just down to them. People have been
pressurising them.
I felt for them. They have been so supportive of me,
but I thought they dont need to keep doing this."
