Magpies down Hawks
(27.01.09)
Maidenhead United got back
to winning ways last night with a one nil win over Havant &
Waterlooville. The goal came from Mustafa Tyriaki, his first in the Blue Square South
this season. Tyriaki was the only change to the team that lost to
Bishops Stortford on Saturday, replacing the injured Lee Newman.
Cooper Goes For Good (27.01.09)
Following
a successful loan spell at Bishops Stortford, central defender Grant Cooper
has been released by Maidenhead United and joined Stortford on a permanent
basis. Cooper
joined United from Kings Lynn in March 2007 and played a key role in the
Magpies' successful push for promotion from the Southern League via the
Play Offs, and then in consolidating their Blue Square South status last season.
He eventually made 54 full appearances for
United, scoring three times. All at the club wish him well for the future
and thank him for his efforts on the pitch.

Hi Ho Saroya! Drax the loan
arranger shuffles his squad (26.12.08)
Centre back Nevin Saroya made his debut for the
Magpies on Boxing Day, ironically at the home of his previous club
HAYU. Saroya, who had been getting
some match practice at Godalming
Town following his
release from Church Road,
came in for the injured Pat Sappleton.
Saroya’s arrival is just one of several
transactions manager Johnson Hippolyte has been involved in as seeks to
resolve the twin problems of lost form and injury which have beset his
Maidenhead United team recently.
Tom Baddeley returned from a loan spell at Bracknell Town and was handed a debut in the
left back position at Bromley, retaining his place on Boxing Day. The youngster proved the value of the
senior experience he gained at Larges
Lane with a good performance in the 4-0 win
over the Ravens.
Grant Cooper will begin his recuperation from
his shoulder injury with a loan spell at former club Bishops
Stortford. James Hamsher and Mustafa
Tyriaki continue to get match practice at Godalming
Town and Potters Bar
Town respectively,
whilst Gavin James made his third loan move of the season last week,
joining former Magpies supremo Carl Taylor at Burnham. Meanwhile Manny Williams is expected to
return to parent club Woking in the New

Sponsor a seat at the
world's oldest continually used football ground (02.12.08)
Maidenhead United Football Club are offering
fans and local businesses the opportunity to sponsor a seat in the main
stand at the world's oldest continually used football ground – for
just £50 per seat.
The club is upgrading the main stand to meet
Conference League standards and to improve the facilities for supporters.
That involves installing 200 new seats to boost
seating capacity in the main stand to 500.
“We are very proud to be playing at the
world’s oldest continually used ground,” said Magpies chairman
Peter Griffin.
“But we need to increase the seating
capacity in the main stand to 500, which is a requirement to play at this
level.
“We need to make sure the stand is
upgraded so that it is fit for fans to watch football in the 21st century.
So we are offering supporters and local businesses the opportunity to
sponsor seats in the renovated stand.
“There will be a roll of honour at the
back of the stand featuring all the names of individuals and companies who
have sponsored seats.
“We are calling on all supporters and
local companies to support Maidenhead United Football Club as we continue
to make positive progress as part of the club’s development.”
The seats are available strictly on a first come
first served basis - but fans and local businesses can buy as many seats as
they like.
To reserve your seat, please send a cheque, to
the value of £50 per seat, made payable to Maidenhead United Football Club,
to: Seat Sale, Maidenhead United Football Club, York Road, Maidenhead.
Please include your name, full postal address
including postcode, landline and mobile contact numbers and email address.

Commenting on her spell in charge Loughrey said:
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Chairman and I would like to
thank the directors, Drax and all the staff at the club for their fantastic
support over the last three years. I also hope that, in transferring the
chairmanship to Peter, it will ensure continuity at the club and I am

Super Manny: The
Return (05.11.08)
Goal
Machine Manny Williams has given Maidenhead United the perfect boost ahead
of their top of the table clash with Chelmsford
City at York Road on Saturday by returning to
the Magpies on a three month loan deal from Blue Square Premier strugglers Woking.
Williams
originally joined the Magpies in the summer of 2007 from Leyton and went
onto have a sensational season, scoring 30 goals and scooping a hat trick
at the end of season awards evening by winning the golden boot,
players’ player and supporters player of the year.
Naturally
Manny attracted the attention of many clubs and opted to sign for Woking. However having been signed by Director
of Football Colin Lippiatt, Williams has found first team opportunities
under manager Kim Grant and his replacement Phil Gilchrist very limited and
returns to United hungry for action.
Generals Plot Magpie Trophy
Coup (03.11.08)
Maidenhead
have been drawn at home to Chesham United in the third and final qualifying
round of the FA Trophy. The tie will be played on Saturday November
22nd and is worth £4,000 to the winner as well as a place in the first
round proper with all the Blue Square Premier clubs.
The
match, a real Berks/Bucks cross border derby, will rekindle one of
Maidenhead's oldest rivalaries. The Magpies' clashes with the
Generals date back to the 19th century and until recently league matches
were commonplace.
The
last meeting, a 0-0 draw at Chesham, was in March 2003 in the Isthmian
Premier League. Earlier that season in the last meeting at York Road,
Maidenhead thrashed Chesham 5-0 with a performance that, coming in his last
season at the club, was a real testament to the managerial partnership of
Alan Devonshire and Carl Taylor. The last Cup meeting was also a
cause for celebration, Since then the Magpies have largely prospered whilst
the Generals slumped. Chesham now languish in the Southern League
Division One Midland but are having as good a league season as the Magpies,
losing only twice and lying fourth in the table.
The
game will bring back memories for people in either camp. For
Maidenhead, management team Johnson Hippolyte and Dereck Brown both had
successful playing spells at The Meadow, Hippolyte going onto cut his managerial
teeth with the Generals' reserve team. For Chesham Danny Burnell and
Dave Fotheringham both had short spells at York Road during the first half of
the 2006/07 season. Burnell in particular caught the eye of
supporters as one to watch for the future and is now beginning to realise
his potential winning the Midland Division Golden Boot last season.
The
meeting is not one to be taken lightly by the Magpies as Chesham have
worked hard to get to this stage, travelling down to Truro
in the first round, and then winning away at the Southern League Premier
Division pacesetters Corby on Saturday.

Phil Shaw RIP (29.09.08)
The club
was sad to hear of the recent death of supporter Phil Shaw. Bell Street
resident Phil watched Maidenhead United as a boy and was a keen player,
reaching county level. In 1948 his friend, groundsman Alf Goom, asked if he
had any spare time to help the club and over the next 37 years his
involvement saw him perform an endless list of essential tasks ranging from
manning the Bell Street
turnstile to repairing the roof of the main stand along with players Brian
Pitts and David Venables. For 25 years he was a dedicated fundraiser, his
efforts helping to purchase among other things the club’s first
floodlights in 1961. He served on the committee until 1985, was awarded a Life Vice-Presidency and

Maidenhead United sign 59-year-old player! (16.09.08)
Maidenhead
United FC have signed a new player: 59-year-old Peter Upton.
Upton,
a Maidenhead-based accountant, won the right to register as a Maidenhead
United FC first team player in an auction at the club's charity black tie
sports dinner at Moor Hall in Cookham last Friday night - which raised
£2,500 for Oxfam and Avert AIDS in memory of former Maidenhead United youth
team player Tim Alfred, who died recently.
The money will be split equally between the two charities both of
which were supported by Tim.
Upton will be officially registered as a first team
player on Saturday at York Road
prior to the Blue Square South
match against Bishop’s Stortford.
He is guaranteed to make an appearance for the reserves, and Magpies
manager Johnson Hippolyte has confirmed Upton could be given a first team run-out
at some stage. Former Arsenal manager
Terry Neill, the guest speaker at Maidenhead's sports dinner on Friday,
will be in attendance when Upton
makes his Maidenhead debut.
Other
auction lots at the dinner included a four-ball round of golf with Terry
Neill at Bird Hills Golf Club including lunch, a 1980 FA Cup final
programme (Arsenal v West Ham) signed by Terry Neill, free hire of
Maidenhead United FC for an 11-a-side match, and free hire of a limo.
The
event was sponsored by Rugby Estates and was organised by Maidenhead
United’s commercial and community manager Mark Roach and Maidenhead
United fan Steve Henson whose company Domenicos sponsors the Youth team.
Following
the success of Friday’s event, Maidenhead United are already making
plans to host another sports dinner next year.
Maidenhead Have A Bash In The FA Cup (15.09.08)
Maidenhead United have
been drawn away to Bashley in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
The tie, to be played on Saturday 27th September, is worth £4,500 to
the winner. There are two further qualifying rounds before the competition
proper begins.
Bashley currently lie
ninth in the Southern League Premier Division, and thrashed Calne Town 5-0 away in the first
qualifying round last Saturday. Bashley play in Hampshire, just
outside the town of New Milton in the New Forest.
The tie should rekindle
happy memories for Maidenhead fans old and new. Last season the
Magpies travelled to Bashley’s neighbours Brockenhurst at the same
stage and won 5-0. United last played Bashley in the autumn of 1991, in the
FA Cup. Travelling down to Hampshire, United earned a draw despite
Bashley playing in a higher division at the time, although the players were
so carried away by the result that they left behind physio Jim Barrs who
was carrying the kit, driving for some miles before noting his absence and
turning back to collect him. Maidenhead then won the replay at York Road, at
the same second qualifying stage, before a delirious crowd, only to lose to
last season’s nemesis Horsham in the next round.
