Duo
leaving Town
Hughes
and Traynor sign on dotted line for the Magpies
MAIDENHEAD
United manager Dennis Greene has signed two players from Farnborough
Town.
Twenty-one-year-old Stephen Hughes is a tall striker who can also
play on the left wing.
He started his career at Brentford where he worked his way through
the ranks to make a handful of appearances for the first team.
After spending time on loan at Basingstoke, Hughes left Griffin
Park for Welling United in the summer of 2004, where his scoring
exploits earned him a transfer to Farnborough that autumn.
Clubmate Robert Traynor, 22, is a pacy attacking midfielder, who
also started his career at Brentford as a trainee, where he worked
his way through to the first team squad, for whom he made two appearances.
He then moved to Chelmsford and Crawley on loan, joining the Sussex
side permanently in the summer of 2004.
Last season he spent time on loan at Weymouth before moving onto
Farnborough in January.
The double signing is being viewed as something of a coup for Greene,
who will take great delight in securing the services of two young
players with League experience.
The Magpies have been drawn away to neighbours Windsor & Eton
in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.
The game must be played by November 11.
A win would then mean a quarter-final clash with Beaconsfield Sycob
or Burnham A, then a semi-final against Wycombe or Aylesbury United.
The draws for the early rounds of the FA Cup and FA Trophy have
also been made this week.
But United do not know who their opponents will be yet, as they
will only be entering the competitions in the next round.
Meanwhile, the youth team have been drawn away to Fisher Athletic
in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup, in a tie to be
played in the week commencing September 26.
If successful they would then face Ramsgate or Tonbridge Angels.
In the third qualifying round they would play AFC Newbury, Westfield,
Andover, Aldershot Town or Bromley.
