Boss fuming after game is called off (09.12.05)

UNITED'S home clash with Basingstoke Town was called off by the referee at 12.15pm on Saturday, supposedly due to a waterlogged pitch.
However, when a handful of fans turned up at 3pm they could hardly believe their eyes, as they gazed out over a firm playing surface which looked perfect for football.
Manager Carl Taylor was fuming the match had been postponed, saying: “I didn’t get to the ground before it was called off, but after hearing the reports I’m not amused.
“Most people thought the game should have been on.
“It was a winnable game and I’m very disappointed it was called off.
“In the future I’ll get there early for the pitch inspection.”
The postponement has also given Taylor something of a selection headache for tomorrow's (Saturday’s) game against Histon at York Road, as Matt Glynn was unable to complete his one-match suspension on Saturday and will instead serve it this week.
Worse still, defenders Dominic White and Ryan Johnson are struggling with injury, while Bryan Smith’s ban for five yellow cards may also begin this week.
On a more positive note, Histon are at home to Nuneaton in the FA Cup on Wednesday night, with the winner entertaining Barclays Premiership outfit Middlesbrough in the next round, so their focus may be somewhere other than York Road.
However, Taylor said he was happy to take on Histon any time, regardless of other fixtures.
He said: “We can beat anyone in this league, so Histon hold no fear for us.
“If we play well enough, we’ll win.”

Maidenhead United have asked Eastbourne Borough if they would consider bringing the two teams’ scheduled New Year's Eve match in Sussex forward to Saturday, December 17.
