Taylor promises change (16.12.05)

MAGPIES boss Carl Taylor has slammed the performances of players and staff – including his own – after Maidenhead United were thumped 4-1 by Histon on Saturday.
The manager said he had ‘major clear the air talks’ with staff and players after the shambolic home defeat, and he was re-examining every aspect of the club to try to bring the team out of its slump.
With two weeks to go until Maidenhead’s next league fixture, Taylor vowed to bring in new faces and to become more closely involved with every aspect of training to help cut out the individual errors and galvanise the players with his own infectious enthusiasm and confidence.
He said: “Firstly, I looked at myself, asking: ‘is it me?’ By the time I had calmed down a bit, I realised probably I had been in the background too much, out watching too many other games and players, so I have rolled my sleeves up and I am on the training ground and being really hands on.
“I believe that will make some difference to the performance levels at least – I bring energy and, when I’m not around, I believe that energy sometimes gets lost in translation.”
He added: “The commitment and desire levels have got to be tested. The responses so far have been really favourable.”
Taylor also revealed one of his main priorities is to turn the Magpies’ home form around, beginning with a friendly against Harrow Borough tomorrow (Saturday).
He said: “I’m not going to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes and by my standards, it was poor on Saturday. But I’m not going to allow that to happen every week.
“I feel for the supporters for the moment, but we have got a hell of a lot of time to go, and an awful lot of matches left.”
