Devine goals sink United (Story posted 09.01.02)

MAIDENHEAD UNITED gave a good account of themsleves last night (Wednesday), as they restricted Wycombe Wanderers to a 3-0 winning margin at Adams Park.
The friendly was arranged at very short notice, with the Magpies trading their usual midweek training session for a run out in front of 400 to 500 fans, while the Blues simply wanted to give the returning star Sean Devine some much needed match practice.
Devine actually scored twice in the game, taking his come-back trail tally to three in two outings.
On 12 minutes Andy Baird and Devine latched onto Andy Baird's cross and cracked the ball home from eight yards out.
He then proceeded to hit the bar on 22 minutes before volleying home a second goal on 44 minutes.
Wycombe's third goal came on 53 minutes, Gavin Holligan headed in Devine's cross from the left.
However, stern defending from the Magpies prevented any further goals.
