Glynn's
rapid progress (Story posted 31.01.02)
HAVING
broken his leg in August Maidenhead Uniteds promising midfielder
Matt Glynn is getting closer to a long-awaited return.
United chairman Roger Coombs said that Glynn is improving rapidly
and is hoping to get on to the pitch as soon as possible.
Coombs said: I spoke to him on the phone last night (Tuesday)
and he was talking about being ready in a week. I think thats
over optimistic, but its good that hes being so positive.
Hes coped with the whole thing very well. When he broke
his leg I thought that might be it for the season.
Coombs added: To be honest if he returns at all this season
it will be a bonus.
Interestingly Glynn, after joining the Magpies from Flackwell Heath,
had caught the eye with a number of impressive displays.
In fact scouts from Reading FC had come along to numerous games
to judge his progress. Now, according to Coombs, the scouts are
back again, but this time no-one is exactly sure who is being scrutinised.
Previously the Reading scouts came for about 10 games in a
row. When Matt broke his leg, we never saw them again, so it was
obvious who they were interested in.
This time I dont know who they are looking at, although
Rob Saunders is probably the likely choice.
The first game the scouts could see is tomorrow (Saturday) when
United entertain Basingstoke.
United will be hoping to complete the double over their rivals from
Hampshire, while on Tuesday the opponents are from slightly nearer
to home.
United play host to Flackwell Heath in the quarter-finals of the
Berks and Bucks Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.
Althouugh the match should be a walk in the park for United
as they are currently 10th in the Premier Divison while Flackwell
are bottom of Division 3 anythng is possible in a cup match.
But United will be focused as, for once at this stage of the season,
this cup is their last hope for silverware and an end of season
final.
The league match at Gravesend and Northfleet has been rearranged
for Tuesday, March 5.
