Greedy Dev wants it all (01.05.03)

THE May Bank Holiday promises to be a momentous weekend for Maidenhead United, with much at stake in two vital matches.
Tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) home clash with relegation threatened Boreham Wood could give United a top-10 finish to the season, while victory against Aylesbury at Chesham on Monday, kick-off 3pm, would secure a fourth Berks & Bucks Senior Cup title in six years.
The two games are also manager Alan Devonshire’s last two in charge.
Throughout the season, Devonshire has insisted the league is his main priority, but, when asked to make a choice between a place in the top-10 or silverware, he said: "We still want to finish as high as possible in the league but we want to be greedy. We want to do both now."
However, despite being the defending champions, Devonshire knows his side will have to be on top of their form to retain the crown, as Aylesbury have lost just once in their last seven outings.
He said: “We beat them a few weeks ago, so they will be out for revenge. They’re a good side. But we're playing well, so hopefully it'll be a quality game to watch.
“We're confident and we're looking forward to it.”
Despite his obvious excitement about the match Devonshire was also keen to stress the importance of tomorrow's clash at York Road.
He said: "They (Boreham Wood) are fighting for their lives, so we have to make sure our eyes aren't on Monday's game. We have to get Saturday out of the way first."
A win would give United a record 65 points and – if Kingstonian slip-up against Canvey Island – 10th place in the league.
The omens are good, as Canvey annihilated Enfield 10-1 last week, while the Ks have lost two on the bounce.
In contrast, the Magpies are back on song, while Boreham have won just once in their last 13 outings.

Maidenhead United are inviting their fans to join players and officials at York Road tomorrow (Saturday) night, for the club’s annual award ceremony.
Kicking-off at 7pm, the evening offers attractions including a barbecue, a marquee with music, and a bar.
Entry is £15, with tickets available from committee members, or from behind the club bar.

United’s AGM takes place on Friday, May 16, starting at 8pm in the social club.
All supporters are invited to attend.
