Magpies finish friendlies on a high (story posted 13.8.01)

MAIDENHEAD United completed their pre-season friendlies with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Chertsey Town on Saturday.
The Magpies could have taken their goal tally to double figures, but missed numerous chances in a one-sided affair.
Yet it took them 23 minutes before they eventually took the lead through defender Lewis Craker, who doubled his tally 16 minutes later.
His strikes came either side of an own goal by Chertsey as the Magpies went into the break 3-0 to the good.
Craker even had a golden opportunity to achieve a rare hat-trick, but joined the long list of sinners on the should-have-scored-more sheet.
After the interval the visitors created numerous chances, but finally increased their lead on 63 minutes through Anthony Hardy.
The goal spree was finalised on 86 minutes when Philip Goss notched the Magpies' fifth.
The Magpies have now played all their friendlies and the serious matches commence on Saturday when they travel to Harrow Borough for the first Ryman Premier Division contest of the season.

Against Hanwell Town, a mixture of 1st team players and reserves were held to a 0-0 draw.
