New Cook adds flavour to United (Story posted 27.06.02)

MAIDENHEAD United recruited a new player last week, as 27-year-old Andy Cook finally signed on the dotted line.
Formerly with Division 1 outfit Northwood, midfielder Cook will join former team-mate Lawrence Yaku at the Magpies.
Manager Alan Devonshire said: “He’s a player I’ve been interested in for a long time.
“But I didn’t know he was going to be available this year, so I’m very happy about that.”
On the downside, signing new talent means losing old hands and Devonshire confirmed that several players would be leaving York Road before the new season kicked-off.
He said: “Ferdy is definitely on his way but I don’t know where yet.
“Others will be going, but I can’t name them yet. I have to speak to them first.”
Devonshire currently plans to sign at least five new players, so a similar number could find themselves leaving York Road over the next few weeks.
He added: “I said I would pick up four or five new players before the new season and it looks like I’ll achieve that.
“I’ve spoken to a couple of players from professional clubs this week.
“It’s just a matter of talking to them some more and getting them down to training to have a look at them.”
