A goal in
either half from saw Maidenhead ease past neighbours Burnham in the County Cup.
In an open game with the players trying their best to entertain the
sparse crowd, the evening was marred by both sides having a player
stretchered off and requiring emergency medical treatment. The first of
these incidents came as early as the eleventh minute when Abby Nsubuga was stretchered off with concussion. Maidenhead were well in control of
affairs, a rasping shot from Ashley Smith in the 21st minute
drawing a good save from Blues keeper Sam Southernden
before Bobby Behzadi scored the opening goal five
minutes later.
A young
Burnham team stood up well to the test of playing a club
two divisions above them, in particular Jordan Dowdican
and Ben Hudell gave the Magpies cause for concern
on more than one occasion with sharp moves down the left wing.
Maidenhead
sealed victory eleven minutes into the second period when Jack Bradshaw
linked up with Lee Newman to score.
Sadly eleven minutes later Bradshaw was stretchered off in some
distress when he twisted his knee.
Maidenhead
will now go on to play a quarter final at either Bracknell Town
or Milton Keynes Dons in the New Year.
