A second half double from trialist
Jones Awuah saw off a determined Holyport in a friendly played at their tidy Summerleaze home.
With the opposition somewhat weaker than had been previously
faced in the pre season thus far, most of the first team squad was given
the night off, although the likes of Grant Cooper, Mark Nisbet,
Ashley Smith and Gavin James were given a run out. It was the latter who gave United the lead
four minutes before the break.
Holyport, featuring United Youth coach Emlyn Hill, were well organised, working hard to give
the Magpies a test. The introduction
of trialist Jones Awuah,
previously of other Blue
Square South
Magpies Dorchester
Town, finally sealed
the game in United’s favour. Awuah applied a good finish to double the lead in the 65th
minute and then scored his second from the penalty spot three minutes left
having been the victim of an illegal challenge.
