Chesham (A) 10/4/01

Chesham (1) 2
Campbell 19, Hall 64

Maidenhead United (0) 1
Arkins 81
Missed chances in the first half and a lack of imagination after the break condemned Maidenhead United to defeat on Tuesday evening.
Eight-placed Chesham United are a useful team, but the visitors will feel they did not play to their potential, allowing another game to slip through their grasps without a point being earned.
The Magpies had the ball in the net on two minutes when Nathan Tyson lobbed the keeper, but he was adjudged offside.
Just five minutes later a diving Darren Grieves glanced his header over the bar from five yards, and then had a close range effort blocked on the line following a goalmouth scramble.
These missed opportunities were punished on 19 minutes when a harshly awarded free-kick was swung into the near post and Dudley Campbell got on the end of it to open the scoring for the home team.
This set the Magpies back on their heels and from then on they conceded a lot of possession, especially after the break.
The Magpies needed an early goal to give them some momentum, but it never looked like coming.
Indeed it was Chesham who should have wrapped the points up much earlier when they had a penalty well saved by Richard Barnard, and what looked like a good goal not given after the ball appeared to bounce down from the cross bar over the line.
It was Fitz Hall who secured the points with a 64th minute header, and although Magpies’ substitute Steve Arkins beat the keeper on 81 minutes with his first touch of the ball, the visitors never looked like taking anything from this match.
The good news for the Magpies was that fellow Ryman Premier Division strugglers Carshalton and Slough both lost, as the battle to stay up continues.
