A MUCH
weakened and experimental United side were still good enough to
beat local rivals Windsor & Eton on Monday night.
Rested were Rickey Ibe, Adrian Allen, Matt Glynn, Orlando Jeffrey,
Rob Paris, Andy Rose, Rob Saunders and Richard Barnard, while Jamie
Jarvis, James Pritchard and Andy Morley were injured.
It was reserve keeper Nick Hart who featured in most of the first
half action, smartly blocking two chances before United grabbed
a lead right on half time.
Former Magpies keeper Kieron Drake played the ball to his central-defender
but United striker Lawrence Yaku was quick to pounce and lobbed
the ball over the hapless goalkeeper.
Windsor hit a post and the bar during the second half, but at the
other end the ever dangerous Yaku could have had a hat-trick on
another night, and Lee Channell was only inches away from connecting
after great work by Obinna Ulasi.
The second half was punctuated by several substitutions and it was
one of these, South African triallist Dylan Kendrick, that set up
the clinching goal.
He cut in on the right, beat his marker and fired in a low shot.
Drake could only parry the shot and Micky Creighton, making his
first appearance for two seasons, was on hand to force the loose
ball over the line.
