Ducks
sunk in the rain (22.11.03)
THE Magpies turned in an excellent performance to come away from
Buckingham Road with maximum points on Saturday,
On an excellent surface, considering the rain, United survived a
few early scares before taking the lead on 15 minutes, when Lawrence
Yaku tapped home, following a dreadful mistake by Kevin Davies in
the Ducks goal.
The home side equalised on 39 minutes, when new signing Mark Reed
latched onto former Magpie Matty Glynns through-ball and raced
on to score.
Crucially, however, the Magpies went into the break a goal to the
good, after the Ducks keeper and his defence both left Ryan Ashes
cross to each other, allowing Steven Hale to collect the ball, scamper
round Davies and slide the ball into an empty net.
Darren Lynch forced Hart into a decent save with a good header from
a corner early on in the second half, but that was as good as it
got for the Ducks.
The nervy second-half was finally wrapped up in injury-time, when
Brendan Gallen released Yaku who calmly slid the ball between the
keepers legs.
After the game, Dreyer said: On current form they (Aylesbury
United) were better than us. Kevin Wilson had been turning things
round there.
Winning 3-1 against a side that's on the way up is a very
pleasing result.
It was an important win. Not just for the result but also
for the performance. The players' attitude was spot on. And it has
put us back on track.
