Shots
are not so hot (24.07.04)
TWO
goals in the final three minutes of play handed Aldershot Town an
unlikely victory at York Road on Saturday.
The Shots got off to a flying start, when Hugh McAuleys cross
was turned into the net by a United defender on 10 minutes.
McLean then had a chance to double the lead, but fired his shot
straight at the goalkeeper from a good position.
United came out all guns blazing after the break and were soon back
on level terms, when Lawrence Yaku muscled his way past Chris Giles
and whipped in a low cross for Dominic Polisano to tap home.
Six minutes later, the Magpies were ahead, when former United keeper
Richard Barnard misjudged a bounce and found himself stranded, allowing
Yaku to steer the ball home unopposed.
On 72 minutes, an Aldershot corner led to the equaliser, as Aaron
McLean scrambled the ball home from inside the six-yard box.
That should have been that, but just as the game seemed headed for
an honourable draw Brett Johnson fired the ball home through a sea
of legs to retake the lead for Aldershot.
With the clock ticking down, a second goal for McLean sealed the
result, as he nipped in front of his marker to score from close
range.
United are back in action tomorrow (Saturday), when they take on
Slough Town at York Road, kick-off 3pm.
Wealdstone are the visitors on Tuesday night, kick-off 7.45pm, before
Thursday nights derby with Marlow at Oak Tree Road, also a
7.45pm kick-off.
