Boro punish sorry Magpies (22.04.06)

EASTBOURNE Borough guaranteed themselves Conference South football next season with a thumping 6-2 victory over a sorry Maidenhead side at York Road on Saturday.
Eastbourne had the upper hand from the start and took the lead in the 13th minute, when a Matt Crabb corner from the right was headed home by Stuart Tuck.
The lead was doubled in similar fashion in the 39th minute, when another Crabb corner from the right was headed in off the bar by Andy Atkin.
Crabb then followed up these earlier assists with a third Eastbourne goal three minutes before half-time, slotting the ball home when the United defence failed to clear a Phil Warner cross.
Three second-half substitutions initially had a positive effect on the hosts, when a long clearance upfield found Neville Roach, who skipped through the Eastbourne defence to score in the 56th minute.
The three-goal lead was swiftly restored, however, when Warner’s speculative cross-cum-shot drifted into the far corner of the goal.
United gained renewed hope with 20 minutes remaining, when Nana Badu put Marc Whiteman through on goal only to be upended by Eastbourne goalkeeper Lee Hook.
Hook surprisingly remained on the pitch but could not stop Roach’s spot-kick.
But Eastbourne removed any lingering doubt about the final outcome minutes later, when yet another Crabb corner was struck home by Atkin.
Eastbourne then hit Maidenhead for six with 13 minutes remaining, when Atkin completed his hat-trick by tapping in the loose ball after Francisco Ramos could only parry Scott Ramsay’s shot.
