Ten-man Magpies out of Trophy after frantic extra-time (29.11.05)

THE Magpies missed out on a lucrative trip to Exeter City as they slipped out of the FA Trophy at Bishop’s Stortford on Tuesday night.
The momentum of this replay was determined by the sending off of Nana Badu after 35 minutes.
The big striker raised his arms in retaliation after a tackle leaving the referee with little option but to show him the red card.
As the 10-man Magpies sought to tighten up, chances were few and far between, with United coming closest to winning the game in normal time.
Finally it was Lee Newman who broke the deadlock in extra-time when he scored with a well executed lob over the keeper on 107 minutes.
However, Stortford were able to respond immediately, with Roy Essandoh scoring twice in as many minutes to put the hosts in front.
Scott Tarr then kept United in the tie with some exceptional saves as the extra man began to make a difference to the tiring visitors.
The Magpies could only manage a late effort which hit the bar.
