YATE TOWN 0

MAIDENHEAD UNITED 0

A goalless stalemate in Gloucestershire on Saturday was enough to edge Maidenhead up another place in the table and extend their unbeaten run to four games.  The clean sheet also means the Magpies have now not conceded a goal in over seven hours of football, although in truth neither goalkeeper had much to do in this match.
Maidenhead dominated the opening exchanges as they looked to continue their recent trend of taking an early lead, but clear cut chances were few and far between.  The best effort cam in the 37th minute when a delightful turn and shot from Neville Roach sailed just over the bar.  As the half drew on the home team fought their way back into the game, with some ill discipline from the Magpies leading to some dangerous set pieces which fortunately came to nothing.
The second half turned into a scrappy affair as Maidenhead were unable to find their way through a packed Yate defence who relied on quick breakaways for their offensive moves.  One such attack saw the Bluebells come close to scoring in the 62nd minute when a cross from the left by Ryan Havard found Dave Anyinsah at the far post with the goal at his mercy, only for his shot to harmlessly balloon the side netting.  Maidenhead continued to press for a goal right to the end, wining a corner in the third minute of injury time which led to the games main talking point.  As the players waited for Dean Fenton to deliver the kick, the Cornish referee spotted Dave Elsey and Nathan Bunce jockeying for position at the far post.  Fenton was asked to pause whilst the referee spoke to Elsey, but as attention returned to the corner Elsey collapsed like the proverbial sack pf potatoes and on the word of the linesman, the referee dismissed Bunce to leave an otherwise innocuous game with a sour finish.
