| Sterling performance brings first home win |
|
Two first half goals gave Maidenhead
United a comfortable victory over Northwood last night. Buoyed up
by their FA Cup win on Saturday the Magpies took the games to their
opponent and were quickly rewarded in the 11th minute when a Dwain
Clarke free kick from the right hand touchline found Dominic
Sterling in the penalty area who supplied an exquisite finish to
score. Maidenhead continued to dominate and pressed hard for a
second goal before the interval going close in the 39th minute when
a Rob Hughes cross was met by the head of Craig O'Connor and drew a
good save from Rob Bullivant in the Northwood goal.
Three minutes later though Bullivant was left helpless when his
midfield gave the ball away and seizing the opportunity Abdul Osman
played in Yashwa Romeo behind the Northwood defence, Romeo
completing the task of taking the ball past Bullivant and sliding it
into the empty net.
The referee then started to produce cards at a rate of knots,
issuing six in ten minutes. Two of these were awarded to Danny
Julienne who walked in the 50th minute. As often happens the ten men
then started to come back in the game, particularly when substitutes
Elliot Buchanan and Max Howell were introduced, however Chico Ramos
was not seriously troubled in the Maidenhead goal. Towards the end
Maidenhead threatened to add to the score with both Sterling and Lee
Newman going close but ultimately the Magpies had to settle for a
two in the first league win at home this season.
