Maidenhead cemented their reputation as draw specialists when
a late equalizer from Yashwa Romeo secure a fifth successive
solitary point.
With United’s lack of goals fast becoming a serious concern,
manager Carl Taylor once again threw caution to the wind by
fielding four attacking players. Despite this the game had an
edgy beginning and it was vistors Hemel who had the two best
early opportunities to score with Anthony Thomas powering a
free header wide and Paul Edgeworth shooting the wrong side of
the post with only goalkeeper Chico Ramos to beat. United
then called Hemel number one Steve Smith into action, a turn
and volley by Craig O’Connor from distance being deflected
wide and then a snapshot from Yashwa Romeo being well saved to
leave the half time score goalless.
Shortly after the break two flowing moves from either side led
to the key moments of the game. Adie Allen made a surging run
which found Romeo who produced a superb double save from
Smith. From the resulting corner, Hemel broke swiftly down
the left through Thomas who unselfishly squared the ball to
Chris Herron who coolly slotted the ball past Ramos into the
net from the edge of the penalty area.
With both sides committed to playing football, an open game
ensued, with chances coming at both ends, O’Connor shooting
wide for United after linking up well with Dwain Clarke, and
Edgeworth again failing to hit the target after going clear.
With two minutes left on the clock Maidenhead won a corner on
the right which was helped on by a Hemel defender to the far
post where Romeo was on hand to stab home the equalizer.
