MAIDENHEAD UNITED 1 (0)
THATCHAM TOWN 3 (0)

Maidenhead conceded a lead for the second night running in a humbling Errea Cup defeat at York Road to Division One Thatcham.
Fielding a strong hand of strikers in Lee Newman, Stephen Hughes and captain for the evening Adie Allen, chances were plentiful for the Magpies but a combination of weak finishing and competent goalkeeping from Town custodian Paul Strudley kept the scoreline blank in the opening period.  It was Thatcham though that spurned the best chance of the first half when Marc Green was brought down in the penalty area by Chico Ramos.  Ramos then repeated his FA Cup feat by saving Barry Elmore’s penalty and went onto to snaffle the rebound.
Maidenhead finally broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when a Hughes free kick from the right wing was deflected into the back of the net by Thatcham’s Ricky Allaway.   Maidenhead then continued to dominate, with their attacking forays enlivened by the introduction of David Clarke and Yashwa Romeo.  As the game drew on though Thatcham began to commit more men forward and were rewarded with eight minutes left when a Green cross was nodded in at the far post by Sam Rea.  There was still time for Maidenhead to avoid the dreaded extra time and a great move by Romeo and Clarke set up Hughes only for the big striker to miss a sitter.
Extra time saw both side go for broke from the off with Green and Dave Fotheringham going close for either side.  Thatcham then got their noses in front just after the turn around when a cross from Rea was tapped in at the far post by Sean Cook.  The scorline was then confirmed when Junior Edwards linked up with Ryan Johnson to set up Romeo, only for Strudley to claw the ball out of the net and away to safety.  Thatcham sealed victory in the final minute in style when Cook scored his second with a great finish.
