Honours
were even in the opening preseason friendly at York Road this
afternoon. With both clubs giving supporters their first chance to
have a look at the potential squad for the forthcoming campaign, it
was Maidenhead who dominated the first hour taking a 3-1 lead before
the customary wholesale substitutions benefited Slough who hit two
late goals to snatch a draw.
United
drew first blood in the 21st minute when Adie Allen pounced on a
loosed back pass, rounding Rebels goalkeeper Kieron Drake before
tapping in from a tight angle. The lead was doubled seven minutes
later when a Dwain Clarke corner from the right was headed home at
the near post by Mark Nisbet. Slough came closest to scoring in
injury time when a Matt Glynn long shot was pushed wide by Chico
Ramos.
Eight
minutes into the second period, Glynn went one better, beating Ramos
from distance with a quickly taken free kick. The Magpies quickly
restored their two goal advantage in the 56th minute when Dwain
Clarke beat Drake with a shot which demonstrated his Conference
pedigree.
This
goal was the cue for multiple substitutions on both sides.
Initially this boosted United with Marc Whiteman twice forcing Drake
into good saves, but with 15 minutes remaining Glynn turned
provider, sending a corner in from the left which was converted by
the head of Daryl Harris to reduce the arrears.
Slough
equalised with just three minutes left, a Harris cross being headed
in by Leigh Mason. |
