One classy performance, two well taken goals,
and three invaluable points was the satisfying sum of the Magpies'
efforts against Banbury United tonight (Thursday) at York Road.
The Magpies started on the front foot and never relinquished their
stranglehold on the contest.
After numerous opportunities to score, the woodwork denying Dwane
Lee and Darti Brown, and Ashley Smith scuffing his shot when just
five yards out, the hosts got the all-important goal on 34 minutes
when Neville Roach swivelled and volleyed the ball from distance
with his left foot inside the far post.
It was a cracking effort and totally deflated the visitors.
When Dwane Lee nodded in a Smith corner in the first minute of the
second half the points were assured.
The Magpies were man for man more focused and sharper than their
Oxfordshire rivals, and a similar performance back at Banbury on
Saturday should deliver the three points the Magpies need to ensure
a play-off place. |
