MAIDENHEAD UNITED 3 (2)

HITCHIN TOWN 0

Maidenhead eased their way to a perfect month with a comfortable three goal win at home to Hitchin.  The win meant United took a full 21 points from their 7 league games in March, form which should surely lead to a manager of the month award for Johnson Hippolyte.

The result never seemed in a doubt as the Magpies set about dissecting a one dimensional Hitchin team with panache. The first goal arrived in the 12th minute, an Errol Telemaque free kick from the right wing finding Mark Nisbet on the edge of the penalty area.  The defender then struck a sweet volley into the back of the net, giving the goalkeeper no chance.  The score was doubled in the 28th minute, again from a free kick.  This time Grant Cooper stepped up to take it just outside the box, and spotting a gaping hole in a ramshackle defensive wall, coolly slotted the ball into the right corner of the net.

Stung by this double blow Hitchin did briefly threaten to get back into the game when a free kick was spilled by the normally reliable Chico Ramos in the United goal.  A Hitchin player picked up the loose ball but blasted it over from point blank range.

After this miss Maidenhead never looked back and following the half time interval should have wrapped up the points, Neville Roach having two good efforts fended away by the keeper.  The third goal finally arrived in the 66th minute.  An attack down the right saw Roach deliver a good low cross into the six yard box, but with Lee Newman poised to fire the ball goalward a Hitchin defender grabbed a handful of black and white stripes to stop the blonde striker in his tracks.  With the linesman flagging for a foul, the referee, following consultation, pointed to the spot.  Bobby Behzadi then stepped up to beat the keeper, sending the ball into the left corner of the goal beyond the dive of Beckwith.
