Maidenhead threw away an early lead to continue
their woeful home record this season with another defeat, the
victors this time being Bognor.
United manager Johnson Hippolyte was forced to make changes to the
team that won at Sutton with David Clarke and Darti Brown missing
through suspension, although this was compensated by the return from
injury of Manny Williams and Bobby Behzadi.
Indeed everything went to plan in the early stages when Maidenhead
took the lead in the fifth minute. Errol Telemaque who has
consistently impressed this season despite playing out of position,
got on the end of a long ball forward and swiftly whipped in a cross
from the right wing which was met by the head of Willams, the ball
sailing into the net.
With Bognor having lost 5-0 at home in their last game, all except
the most fervent Rocks fans expected a similar rout to ensue, but
using the passing style that has become their trademark under the
long managerial spell of Jack Pearce, Bognor set about playing
themselves back into the game.
The Rocks levelled the scores just after the half hour mark. Dan
Beck was given space on the edge of the penalty area to pick a spot
and gratefully curled a delightful shot into the far corner.
With half time in sight Bognor completed their comeback. Darren
Budd ploughed a fruitful furrow down the left wing cutting inside to
fire a cross to the far post where David Ray was waiting to tap the
ball into the inviting net.
After the break Maidenhead pushed hard for an equaliser but despite
three subtutuitions and much industry, the Magpies lacked the
invention to create goalscoring opportunities, leaving Bognor to
ultimately run out comfortable winners. |
