A sixteen minute Manny Williams hat trick
delivered the long awaited first home victory in the Blue Square
South against Dorchester, the divisions other Magpies.
Fielding an unchanged team, Johnson Hippolyte's men slowly asserted
their dominance in the first half, on loan striker John Hastings
going close in the sixteenth minute with a shot that went narrowly
wide.
The lead was taken on the half hour mark when a looping Dwane Lee
cross from the right was feebly dealt with by the defenders, the
loose ball being picked by Williams who superbly made enough space
for himself to fire a neat shot home from a difficult angle. A
sharp save by Chico Ramos from a Nathan Simpson snap shot dented any
hopes of a quick Dorchester comeback, and instead it was United who
scored again with five minutes of the half remaining. A quick throw
in from the left found Hastings who proceeded to dance through the
defence before turning on a sixpence to deliver a pinpoint cross
onto the head of Williams who made no mistake to score from close
range.
The second half was barely seconds old when Williams capitalised on
more confusion in the Dorchester defence to run clear and beat the
keeper with his shot to record his first hat trick for United. At
this point looking a well beaten team, Dorchester were handed a life
line in the 57th minute when a James Rowe free kick was turned into
his own net by Maidenhead captain Dominic Sterling. Buoyed up by
the goal, Dorchester enjoyed a spell of pressure but were unable to
force Ramos into serious action and as the game drew to a close
there was only one team likely to add to the score, Errol Telemaque,
Williams and Ronayne Benjamin also forcing good saves from Darren
Behcet. |
