Goalless Stalemate casts no shadow  (15.10.07)

MAIDENHEAD UNITED 0

 WESTON-SUPER-MARE 0

The lights went out on Maidenhead on Tuesday night casting an appropriate verdict on a goalless draw in which both teams spurned golden chances to win.  Bizarrely the strong wind and slope provided little help to the team who had in their favour; instead it was the team who kicked uphill into the wind who had the best of each half.
In the first period this was Maidenhead and the evening could have been very different if Manny Williams had taken an early opportunity to score.  Williams latched onto a superb cross field pass from Darti Brown, and ran clear on goal with only the Weston keeper Ryan Northmore to beat.  Unfortunately for the United fans behind the goal, Northmore was able to push Williams' effort wide.  Maidenhead dominated the rest of the half but despite much pressure could not score.
After the break it was Weston's turn to attack against the elements and it fell to Lewis Powell to commit the miss of century and deny the Seagulls a possible first Blue Square South win since October.  With Maidenhead goalkeeper Chico Ramos seemingly having a rush of blood to the head, Powell was left with a literally open goal, only to put his shot wide from inside the penalty area.
Maidenhead almost made Weston pay for this miss six minutes later when Mark Nisbet hit a superb volley which was goalbound until it was cleared off the line by a defender.  The game then meandered towards a goalless draw with a brief stoppage when the floodlights failed twelve minutes from time.
