A brace of goals from scoring machine Manny Williams set up a long awaited first home win of the season against HAYU in the Setanta Shield on Tuesday night.

Maidenhead manager Johnson Hippolyte was forced by injuries to make changes in every department of the team but nevertheless his men carried on with their sparkling form from the second half on Saturday, deservedly taking the lead in the seventh minute when Errol Telemaque threaded the ball through the midfield to Manny Williams who gave ex Magpie goalkeeper Delroy Preddie no chance of stopping a clinical finish from the right hand corner of the penalty area.
The goal woke HAYU up, but despite battling hard they were unable to seriously test Maidenhead goalkeeper Chico Ramos.  Instead it was Williams again who added to the score in the 34th minute, although this time the goal was more down to luck than judgement.  Spotting forward partner Yashwa Romeo at the far post, the pint sized striker fired in a fierce cross only for the hapless Preddie to fumble the ball over the line at the near post.
The floodgates then threatened to open and Preddie had to be at his best to save from Romeo twice, and tip a Grant Cooper free kick onto the post in the remaining ten minutes of the first half.
After the interval the HAYU crew remained rock steady for a while but still lacked inspiration up front.  As the visitors committed more and more men forward in a vain bid to get back into the tie, gaps began to open in their defence.
The introduction of the fleet footed Gavin James  with twenty minutes left helped to exploit these openings and it was no surprise when Romeo scored to seal the win in the 84th minute following good work again from Telemaque.
