Fielding a team boasting a reputed 1,200
Football League appearances, Paul Ince's Milton Keynes Dons had an
unsurprisingly comfortable first defence of the Berks & Bucks Senior
Cup.
With the luxury of being able to field seasoned professionals like
Nathan Abbey, Matt Carbon, Leon Knight and Scott Taylor, the Dons
swept Maidenhead away in the first half scoring four times without
reply. Ashley Smith came closest to landing a retaliatory blow with
an effort that hit the crossbar.
The Dons opening goal came from Luke Howell with a low shot, Liam
Kelly then took advantage of some hesitancy in the Maidenhead
defence to double the lead. Taylor then put the game beyond
Maidenhead with two goals in three minutes. United fought manfully
to stay in the game but it was all they could do to keep the score
to four at the break.
In the second half Maidenhead salvaged some pride by having the
better of the game and were rewarded in the dying minutes when Darti
Brown scored the goal of the night with a delightful lob from
outside the penalty area. |
