Maidenhead battle hard to earn point  (12.08.08)

BROMLEY 1 (1)

MAIDENHEAD UNITED 1 (1)

Maidenhead dug deep yesterday to hold on to a well deserved draw against a combative Bromley outfit in Kent.
Manager Johnson Hippolyte opted to hand debuts to new signings Jack Bradshaw and Jefferson Louis in favour of Dwane Lee and Carl Wilson- Denis after the poor midweek showing at home to Weston Super Mare, and it was Louis who immediately justified his selection playing a key role in the opening goal.
This came within seconds of Bromley kicking off.  Grant Cooper picked up the loose ball in his own half and fired a long pass to Louis.  The tall striker held up the ball and then passed to Manny Williams who
did not need to be asked twice to set off on his tricky trademark route to goal, dancing through the Bromley defence before scoring within 25 seconds of the start of the game.  One minute later Williams
was given an almost carbon copy of an opportunity to double the lead.
Again it was Cooper with a long ball which this time was flicked on by the head of Louis to Williams, but with the striker poised to shoot Bobby Bowry made a vital intervention to knock the ball behind for a corner.
An entertaining game ensued with play swiftly flowing from end to end.  Bromley equalised in the twentieth minute.  Sam Wood was given time and space in midfield to hit a rocket of a shot which Chico Ramos found too hot to handle.  Unfortunately for Maidenhead the ball fell to Simon Glover who swept the ball home from close range.  The half belonged to United though, James Hamsher and Jack Bradshaw both having efforts cleared off the line by Mark Corneille and Ben Judge respectively before the interval.
The tables were turned in the second half with Bromley slowly increasing the pressure.  Maidenhead were not without goalscoring opportunities but it was Ramos who was the busier of the two goalkeepers.  Helped by some tremendous defending from Mark Nisbet and man of the match Cooper, Maidenhead repelled wave after wave of Bromley attacks, and when the rearguard was penetrated Ramos was equal
to every shot directed at him, pushing wide efforts from Gareth Williams, Corneille and Danny Hockton.
