A good sized crowd not only basked in the
sunshine at Bolitho Park but also in the performance of the team
as they gained a notable scalp in their first pre season friendly.
Maidenhead, who were promoted to the Conference South this Season,
paid Parkway the compliment of bringing a strong side to Plymouth
but found their hosts in no mood to hand them victory. Parkway had
the better of the first half chances with Virgil Igalawuye's
header cleared off the visitors line before Ryan Fice forced a
great one handed save from goalkeeper Delroy Preddie.
Maidenhead looked dangerous on the break and Errol Telemarque
should have done better than to fire wide when he burst clear of
the home defence. Parkway hit back with Jon Morris sending in a
stinging drive that hit his own striker, Mark Berry, before being
cleared.
The home side took the lead after 21 minutes but Maidenhead hotly
disputed that Fice had kicked the ball out of Preddie's hands
after the keeper had fumbled Martyn Sullivan's fierce free kick.
The visitors hit back, with Telemarque once again finding himself
in the clear, but Barnes pulled out a fine save low to his right.
Three minutes before the break, the keeper was beaten by Grant
Cooper's header, only for Lee Doel to clear off the line.
It was a goal of pure class that saw Parkway double their lead in
first half stoppage time as Berry left a crossfield pass for
Sullivan to curl a beauty into the top far corner of the net from
the angle of the box.
Parkway made several substitutions after the break and were
constantly kept on the defensive as Maidenhead showed their class,
but it was Barnes who proved a stumbling block making fine saves
from Manny Williams, Wes Daly and twice from substitute Shaun
McCauley
It was not until three minutes from time that Maidenhead finally
made the breakthrough as Igalawuye's challenge on Williams gave
Bobby Bezardi the chance to beat Barnes low to his left from the
penalty spot.
