Maidenhead are still without a league win following a disappointing
defeat at the hands of Eastbourne in Sussex today.
United started brightly in an even first half with the action ebbing
and flowing from one end to the other.
Carl
Wilson-Denis was first to threaten for United with a neat turn and
shot in the eleventh minute which went just wide.
Free
scoring striker Scott Ramsay then put the home team in front,
capitalising on the failure of the Maidenhead defence to clear their
lines by clinically firing the loose ball past a helpless Chico
Ramos on the quarter hour mark.
United took only four minutes to level the score, Errol Telemaque
sending a useful pass from the right wing across the the penalty
area to Ryan Johnson who knocked the ball back into the middle where
Darti Brown found the room to power the ball into the net.
Both
sides then had chances to go into the interval ahead, Manny Williams
having an effort deflected over the bar for the Magpies, and for
Borough Ramsay had a shot cleared off the line whilst Matt Crabb
wasted a great chance with only Ramos to beat.
With everything to play for in the second half both sets of
supporters looked forward to an entertaining final act but an early
penalty for Eastbourne, scored by Ramsay rather spoiled the game as
a spectacle with the home side then happy to sit on their lead.
The
major talking point centred on an ugly incident eleven minutes from
time when David Clarke reacted angrily to an Eastbourne challenge by
pushing away his assailant. A predictable melee ensued and when the
dust had settled a red card was shown to both Clarke and Brown.
The
nine men of Maidenhead fought hard to get back into the game but the
two man advantage was too much and Eastbourne comfortably held out
for victory. |
