Saints Secure Safety (22.04.08)

MAIDENHEAD UNITED 0

ST. ALBANS CITY 0

St Albans ensure they would be staying with the Magpies in the Blue Square South next season by earning a point in a well contested goalless draw at York Road tonight.
Both teams showed much enterprise going forward creating goalscoring opportunities in both halves, however neither forward line was able to translate these into a serious goalbound effort with goalkeepers Chris Tardif and Paul Bastock both having a tidy night at the back.
Tardif perhaps earned himself the champagne moment by saving a penalty after 25 minutes.  Darti Brown brought down Lee Clarke on the right hand side of the penalty area, Paul Bruce stepping up to take the spot kick.  However Tardif guessed right with his dive, low to his right to comfortably gather the ball.
Magpies: Tardif, Smith (79 James), Fyfield, Hinds, Nisbet, Cooper, Newman (76 Wilson-Denis), Brown, Williams, Pacquette, Bernard (76 Hamsher).
Unused subs: Daly Hudson.
Saints: Bastock, Fisher, Cousins, Thurlbourne, Frater, Quilter (60 Deen), Gray, Clarke, Wasiu, Hakim (72 Martin), Bruce (32 Hunt).
Unused subs: McKie, Twomey.
Crowd: 369.
