winning 8-3 to ease their path into the 3rd round.

Reserves
lose on Penalties (19.11.08)
Despite dominating their
President's Cup game against Wingate & Finchley, a strong Reserve side
were unable to push home their superiority and eventually fell on Penalties
by a margin of 6-5.
They dominated play and
should have led at Half-Time but for some poor finishing, the most notable chance
being a miss by Richard Shittu who, having been played in by some great
play by Marvin Hong, proceeded to shoot straight at the Wingate keeper when
it looked easier to score.
In the second period, the
Magpies continued to have the lion's share of possession of chances but,
despite some lively play particularly by Lee Newman, they were unable to
beat the excellent opposition goalkeeper who made several fine saves.
It turned out to be the young Wingate & Finchley keeper's night as he
was able to produce one more save in the Penalty Shoot-out than his
opposite number, Warren Carter, to ensure that the visitors moved through
to the Quarter Finals.

Reserves
lay Staines Bogey in President’s Cup
(24.10.08)
Goals from Richard Shittu
and Jean-Black Ngody took the Reserves through in the Capital League President's
Cup with a fine 2-0 win over Staines
Town.
Staines have proved in the
past 2 years to be a bit of a bogey team, particularly in this Competition,
and despite fielding ex-Magpies Dean Fenton and Lewis Cook, the young
Maidenhead team prevailed, the goals coming in the first 20 minutes.
The second string will
travel to Wingate & Finchley in the next round.

Reserve Team beat Staines Town Reserves 2-1 at home in the Capital League

A
good result considering Staines are our bogey

debutant Substitute Akwasi Edusei.
The
Staines team included former Magpie Lewis Cook, and we included First Team
Squad members Warren Carter, Tom Baddeley, Jamal Fyfield, Mark Nisbet,

Youth Thump Dean (24.08.08)
The boys continued their preparation for the
start of the league season with a comfortable win over Cookham Dean. A very wet and windy game at the Dean on
an extremely lopsided pitch, which in turn affected the lad’s
football. With 4 players missing and
a number of trialists used it was very hard to find much rhythm, and during
the first half the boys were bullied out of it to begin with playing
against men twice their age. After
going 1-0 down from a header on 20 minutes the Magpies pulled it back to 1-1
just before half time with some great link up play between the two forwards
Lee Barney and George Lock, before Lee Rounded the keeper and slotted
home. After a long chat at half time
the lads began the second half by far the better team winning every ball
and playing some great football, George Lock made it 2-1 after an hour
slotting home from close range. Minutes later Lee Barney hit a Fantastic
strike from 25 yards into the top corner followed by his fully deserved
hat-trick minutes before the end to make the final score 4-1. Overall a
good performance on a poor pitch hopefully we peak at the correct time on
the opening game of the season away at Thatcham Town
on 4th September.

Youth narrowly beaten in Arsenal
Invitation Tourney (09.08.08)
The
Youth Team got off to a very successful start to the season, finishing
runners up in the U19's Arsenal tournament.
The boys kept a clean sheet throughout the early rounds, their
opponents including Canadian outfit Fort Murray,
and faced Hayes & Yeading United in the final. Despite going 2-0 down the lads showed a
lot of character and great team spirit to bringing it back to 2-2, only to
lose on penalties. The boys played
some very exciting football and I can see a very good season ahead of us.
